We certainly enjoyed the benefits of all your hard work, and were impressed by the original artwork and the idea of having some for sale.

We loved the relaxed and helpful atmosphere, and kind catering to our special diets.

Great hospitality & food - very many thanks!

My partner and I have just returned from a lovely overnight in Stratford. Usually, we attend theatre performances a few times a year - but we always opt for the matinee, driving back to Toronto on the same day.

We decided on this occasion to take in both a matinee and an evening performance - and spent the night at "Across the Bridge", owned by Kelly Godfrey and Eric Norcross.

We arrived at noon at their gracious 1880's home, and they kindly allowed us to leave both our luggage and our car there, while we found lunch at one of the places they recommended. We were entranced by the matinee performance of Cabaret, and afterwards wandered around town, finally settling in at Bijou for a delicate seafood ragout, perfectly-cooked Ontario lamb, and the best pickerel I've ever had in my (fisher woman's) life!

Walking back to the B&B after catching a performance of The Music Man (okay, I'm a musical addict!), there was steam rising from the river, as it was such a perfectly mild autumn night.

Even my herniated L5 disc slept well on the big, yellow-quilted bed in the lovely yellow room. The freshly ground coffee was brewed and ready, as advertised, at 7:30 am the next morning, and I was able to catch up on my week-old book reviews in the large salon, while looking out the light-filled window. Ronnie slept in, and when he arrived downstairs, there were freshly baked muffins with pomegranate jam, a beautifully-presented fresh fruit salad made up of wonderfully crunchy (!) grapes, raspberries and cantaloupe. I had just swiped a biscotti from the sideboard for absent-minded dipping into my endless cup of coffee, when Kelly appeared with more... breakfast! And it was beautiful: a perfectly poached egg atop an english muffin, accessorized with a lovely summer smear of fresh pesto, and a spiral of very juicy tangerine... oh, yes, and freshly-squeezed orange juice.

I had mentioned in passing when we arrived the day before that I was a musical junkie, and it was my birthday, so this was my big treat: to see two beloved musicals in one day. Apparently, our hosts had taken it upon themselves, after we left for Cabaret, to drive to St Marys to the Swiss Chocolatier... in order to find two perfect tarts in honour of my birthday. They were presented to me at the breakfast table. This gracious act was so above and beyond that I, too, was inspired to rise to the occasion, and actually SHARED my two tarts (one a delicate pumpkin, the other made up of layers of different kinds of chocolate clouds) with my partner. I did not have to do this.

Needless to say, Kelly and Eric did not have to do what they did. We were entirely won over, and are already working on the necessary papers to get ourselves adopted by this affable and intelligent pair. Failing this, I am looking forward to the new tradition of TWO theatre productions and a sleep-over in Stratford TWICE a season. Across the Bridge will be an important part of our getaway. It is spotless, comfortable, quiet and, in short, a complete pleasure. What more is there to ask for in lodgings than a comfortable bed, fresh coffee on the sideboard, interesting art on the walls, and attentive note paid to all the small but crucial things?

Cheers,
Caroline J., Toronto

Your home and hospitality made my first visit to Stratford a perfect vacation. From the comfort and pleasing atmosphere (music, books, design, art...) to your welcoming, gentle graciousness - it's been lovely and I'm sorry to have to leave. I wish you a wonderful summer. The Across the Bridge Bed & Breakfast is a fabulous place. Although this time our stay was by invitation, from the incredible generosity of Eric and Kelly, when we return to Stratford, we won't stay anywhere else.

There are four guest rooms, all appointed with immaculate, comfortable washrooms; one room is a suite with a sitting area. The hosts have thought of their guests' every need, from toiletries you may have forgotten to pack, to earplugs for a loud show, to a vast selection of teas for morning or afternoon. What is it about white pure-cotton sheets that is so inviting and luxurious?

Across the Bridge doubles as an art gallery. Eric and Kelly are both artists and have experience running galleries. Throughout the house, the walls are hung with original paintings, lithographs and photographs, and there are a few objects displayed on the furniture. The art is all for sale, but also just there for you to enjoy. As they settle into their new life, Eric and Kelly hope to include their own art on display, too. The art's presence makes the house so much more alive and interesting than an ordinary B&B.

Breakfast is sumptuous. One morning there was homemade banana-poppy bread and poached eggs with pesto and fresh mozzarella. Another morning it was fresh-baked scones, potato pancakes and light, crepe-like omelets. And every morning, there is freshly prepared fruit salad, freshly squeezed orange juice and all the finishing touches that make a special breakfast.

Eric and Kelly are excellent hosts - attentive and friendly but never intrusive.

We are taking our first "couple" vacation weekend since the birth of our son (and probably our last before the birth of next), and this has been a perfect location.

Great location to walk to everything and wonderful attention to all the little details that made for a great stay.

My Birthday Weekend in Stratford - excerpted...

... On Friday morning, Jason and I putzed about, got packed up, and left the house around noon. We arrived a little before 4:00 p.m. and got settled into the bed and breakfast. We stayed [at] Across the Bridge Bed and Breakfast and it was a nice old home that the owners had recently renovated and converted into a B&B. We had the Grover Suite which met our needs just fine. The owners thought of tons of nice little touches, including chocolates by our bedside each night - yum! After checking in, they helped us get a dinner reservation, and we went up to take a little rest. Ah, resting - it's a wonderful thing.

Eric and Kelly run a superb B&B. Having visited Stratford numerous times, their B&B is the best. Rooms are tasteful, beds comfy, lots of hot water, great location near city pool...

We had a great time in Stratford this week & staying at your B&B was a big part of it. You are so close to everything which is good for lots of back and forth. We felt very well taken care of, & loved the breakfasts. Thank you Kelly & Eric.
